O Devayani,
Tibetan runners who proceed
at extraordinary speeds
over extraordinary distances
train themselves by sitting
cross-legged in darkness,
leaping in place. They pass
a test when they leap (sitting,
without the use of their hands)
twice the height of their
bodies. O Devayani,
some become so light
they must wrap themselves in
chains
to run
lest they drift off into the
blue sky
